I just wanted to follow up the official announcement and add that we will do everything we can to make the transition as smooth and seamless as possible. When the time comes we will do our best to help you migrate existing MiaCMS sites to Aliro. We already an unofficial process for this that just needs to be refined, thoroughly tested, and scripted. There will most likely be a similar conversion script for Mambo sites as well. We have an early preview MiaCMS "like" demo running on top of Aliro that you can see here - http://miacms.alirodemo.org/. This is simply meant to be a confidence builder and migration testbed. The end product will likely be much different. We need some time to polish off the first official Aliro release before we encourage everyone to make the switch. More to come. Exciting times ahead

Will MiaCMS site merge too or just the code?
Eventually just about everything will live under the Aliro domain.
At this moment witch cms should we install, Mia or Aliro and why.
Aliro 2 is still in beta (although it is fairly stable). That being said I wouldn't normally advise using beta software on a production site. Aliro will likely undergo a fair amount of changes between now and the official 2.0 release as we continue to merge in parts of MiaCMS that makes sense for the combined product. MiaCMS 4.8 is stable and production ready. It will be supported with security patches for a good while to come. Personally, I would experiment with Aliro so that you can see what good things are coming, but I would build a production site with MiaCMS until the official release is ready. If you are looking to develop extensions then I would target Aliro. We will do our best to make migrating from MiaCMS to Aliro as smooth as possible when the official release is ready.
